Students who complete English 110 should:
Control sentence-level error (grammar, punctuation, spelling).
I am generally good with grammar and spelling, but I am a comma happy person which is something I do need to work on. My L comments in the first paper mostly had to do with adding words to my quotes and citation errors, which I have worked on and normally do well with. Due to being in honors english and AP english classes throughout high school we would work on grammar often and take specific grammar tests to improve our abilities. Even if I have come far grammar, punctuation, and spelling wise, there is always room for improvement.
For paper 2, I focused on having as little grammar errors as possible, and honestly the only thing that I messed up on is citing the page number for my scientific article. I was even able to use a semi-colon and I was good about commas.
I think that, once again, proofreading is so important to make sure that your grammar, punctuation, and spelling is correct. I usually reread my sentences, not only to make sure they make sense but to look for any errors. I think overall I exhibit better control now, even if I had minimal mistakes in the beginning, but as I like to say, there is always room for improvement. I think some error patterns that I still need to look out for is related to punctuation where I do love to use commas and create longer sentences. Overall though I feel confident in my skills when it comes to controlling sentence-level error, but what really made this possible is practicing, looking through my work, and having others review my work. In the end, having good grammar is important especially when creating a good paper and to be the most accurate. Controlling sentence-level errors helps us be more formal in our writing, and does not create mix signals for those reading our words.
